I am looking to buy a used (very used) English saddle. The brand on it is "Rossi y caruso". Has anyone heard of this brand? Is it a quality brand? Does anyone know what they run new? Thanks

Lol, that’s what I thought when it said "slightly used". That’s why I said "very used"! =D
I’m a western rider looking for an English saddle just to fool around in. The lady agreed to let me return the saddle if it’s not a good fit.
I don’t know about the brand but that saddle looks like it is about to fall apart. I would not buy it.

My Pony gets back sore verrrry easy with english saddles and i got luck that mine fit him perfectly when i got him. I want to put him in a western saddle(i dont have one yet) it will mostly likely be really cheap and used because i’ll just be using it for fun. I want to know if he’ll get back sore with the western just as he would the english or is it different?
Use a good thick pad and be sure you brush the hair before putting it on, also a little stretching helps.

Hi, I just bought a used Saddleseat Saddle and it’s got a scratch in the back. I have a nameplate to put over it, but I don’t know how to put it on. Does it just screw in? I’m new to the horse world so I’m a bit clueless.
Either take the saddle to a tack shop or you can use a brass plate with
small tacks and attach it to the back of the saddle

or do i not have to?? he can already jump. But heres my plan:
ride him w/ an english saddle w/ his western bridle and just get him used to the saddle
then after a couple rides w/ the english saddle, put the english bridle on him
is that right to do??
or what do i do??
i dont think the english bridle will bother him.
your big problems are going to be re-wiring his brain
western to english is not as hard as western to dressage/jumper/eventer (im a smart one, eh?) but its still really different
personally id get an english trainer to help, but i understand if you cant or wont
so, id lung him in an english snaffle bit. loose ring. with his saddle on. you thread the lung line through the inside ring on the bit (so if you are going right, the lung line goes through the right ring on the snaffle) then thread it up behind his ears (like a halter) and clip it to the other ring on the outside. either remove your reins for this or twist them and hike them up under a loose throat latch. then lunge your pony like you usually would. (i dont mean to insult your intelligence, but a lot of people have never done this, so).
western = slow, down-hill motion
english = faster, more collected, up-hill motion
good luck!

I know our landfills aren’t clogged with English saddles, but I still hate throwing them away. Eventually they get to a point where they can’t be used anymore, such as when the old wooden trees break. I would love to hear/read any creative uses for retired saddles. For example, I heard of a guy who made bar stools for the bar in his "man cave" out of them.
1) Use them to teach about saddle care, construction etc.
2) Ask local theatres if they have a use for them as props.
That’s about all I have

I was just wondering how many hours people that ride English in a weeks time on average compared to people that ride western.
Lot’s of folks answered a question earlier about this and most people said they liked English better. I have rode English and I liked it, but not for long hours at a time. So, I am wondering if English riders don’t spend that much time as far as hours at one time on there horse and that’s why there happy with an English saddle. I know people that ride Western and spend anywhere from 2 to 5 hours in the saddle. I used to when I was younger and there is no way I could have stood it in an English saddle.
So I was just wondering about that.
Whats your thought?
For long hours.. I deffinately go for the western saddle.. Much more comfy and I know I shouldn’t but Its a good slouching saddle for when I’m tired, whereas English saddles after about 2 hrs.. they get a little uncomfortable and I need to dangle my feet out of the stirrups and stuff.

I’m looking for a USED saddle in a 16 and a half, 17 or possibly 17 and a half. Medium tree, doesn’t need leathers or irons.
I’ll take any of the following brands:
CWD- any and all
PJ Delgrange
Devacoux
Childeric
Butet
Antares
and am willing to pay up to $1,800, or will trade used eventing/jumper saddle and cash.
Cosmetic damage is OK.

I was just wondering if anyone had any favorite saddle soaps or conditioners to use on their english saddles. I currently use glycerin saddle soap, then leather dressing(in the blue tin), then Passier leather balm. I’m trying to remove some black crud off the saddle flap from my leathers. Any suggestions would be great!
I like Lexol. If you’re not worried about your saddle darkening, I also really like using a very light (!!!) coating of olive oil, especially for really dry leather, but it will darken your tack, and must be applied really lightly.
