Ok, this is just for fun..I’m trying to make a list of all the things that happens to you, that makes you a horse owner/rider/equestrian.
Here are a few examples:
When you’re covered in horse hair all day, no matter how many times you change.
You’re laundry is a bunch of saddle pads, breeches and horse blankets.
You find random pieces of feed in your car.
Your trunk is full of riding gear.
You always carry a horse treat on you.
Carrots and apples are always on your grocery list.
You wear your boots everywhere.
Jumping things most people would duck under, is normal.
I’m going to make a facebook group and list all your ideas! I will also leave this question open for voting, so there will be a "winner". Just bored, thought this would be fun
and it’s an easy 2 points, easy 10 for great ideas!
Join the facebook group!! I’m trying to make this a fan page..
Search: You know you’re an equestrian when…
It has the picture of two people riding bays at Churchill Downs for morning warm ups
I have a fan page up and running now! Please become a fan!:)
You scream everytime you’re in the car and you see a horse trailer and say "Look at the horses!"
You don’t run, you canter.

I have a huge dream. One that if accomplished would make me go against the odds BIG TIME.I want to go to the equestrian olympics. My parents dont make a huge amount of money cuz were not rich but well off. Just to give you a backround: I started horsebackriding 2 and a half years ago. During this time I have gotten 16 lessons so far. 5 jumping and 11 natural horsemanship. I used to never get lessons and my trainers for "H.B.R."[well just call it that] were books, internet, dvds and RFDTV. I have had 1 year and a half experience with jumping.[what I want to go to the olympics for] I now get lessons every two weeks. I have a 14.5 hands high paint. I might be able to possibly just maybe get another horse in addition to Shiloh,my horse but I’ll have to work REALLY hard to afford that horse. My horse can jump 5 ft. high as far as I know, maybe higher with some good training. I’m appart of the Clinton Anderson "No Worries"Club,StonyBrook Saddle Club,Horse&Rider magazine Horse Illuatrated magazine too.So now you have an idea of my situation so any advice, reality checks, suggestions,or how to’s for such as for say….how to make it or what it REALLY takes.
You don’t sound like you know a whole lot. Horses aren’t just riding, you need knowledge too.
14.5 hands doesn’t exist.
If you have a paint that consistently jumps 5 feet with the ability to go higher, call ripley’s
16 lessons in 2.5 years is nothing.
To get to the olympics:
Be born to a family who starts you off in horses at the age of three.
Watch as they hand over thousands of dollars a month for your pro training from a past olympian
Receive a hundred thousand + dollar horse
Train every day of your life, interning at barns and working under trainers and pro riders
Go to all the big shows
Get sponsorships
MAYBE, possibly, but not likely make it to the olympics

I was wondering if you could be vegan and still use things such as leather? I do not eat animal products and avoid useing/wearing them. But being an equestrian I have to use it for saddles and bridles ect.
So to be a vegan do you just not have to eat any animal product or do you also not have to use them?
Vegans do not use animal products that can easily be avoided as well as not eating animals. A saddle would fall under something easily avoided.
Personally I would think someone who rides horses can’t be a Vegan anyways just because they ride horses. You could rescue horses but riding, buying, or selling horses is exploiting them, and that’s not a Vegan thing to do. I know this may not be the most popular of opinions but if we are following the strict interpretation of the word, it’s what makes the most sense.
VEGANISM may be defined as a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as possible and practical, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.

So i remember a while back i found a wsite with equestrian items that were misprinted. Like i got a western saddle carrier for like half off because the brand name emblem was sewn on upside down. Anyone seen any webistes lke this?
I don’t know any specific sites, but play around with google. Google is fantastic tool when you know how to use the right combinations of search words.
Use search terms like horse tack mistprints / horse tack half off / equestrian gear discounts
Put in words like "factory" and "error", and use combinatorics to juggle the terms around. You should be able to find good results there. You should also try Ebay for stuff like that – you can usually find new-in-box stuff there really cheaply because of some tiny trivial error like a brand name upside down.

If you mean an ‘equitation’ seat, the difference looks minor, but makes a big difference in the rider. Generally, an ‘equitation’ saddle is higher in the front part of the seat and thus forces the rider to sit in one position and not move around. The cantle has a tendency to be big and blocky, and the horn will be short and angled to the front. This saddle’s main purpose is to help the rider stay in one position and look good on the horse, since equitation is judged on the rider’s appearance on the horse. They are generally very comfortable to ride, but many riders like to be able to move around a bit more on the horse than these easily allow you to do. Many show saddles for western pleasure and rail events are of this type.
Western saddles have many other types of seats– for example, a cutting saddle is made with a high, thin horn for good grip, and a seat that allows the rider to sit low on the horse and shift to find correct balance. A team-roping saddle is built on a very heavy-duty tree and usually has a deep seat, upright horn, and medium-height cantle. A calf roping/tie down roping saddle will usually have a low cantle to aid in the rider dismounting quickly, with a deep seat that sits the rider a shade farther back on the horse to aid in balance and a fast dismount. A reining saddle fits low on the horse with a deep seat for security. A barrel racing saddle usually has a high cantle, short, deep seat, and tall pommel to lock the rider in place during the quick turns and fast pace of a barrel race. An all-around, or ranch saddle will generally have a deeper seat with a low or medium cantle, a roping horn and pommel, and possibly bucking rolls depending on the tree style with heavy-duty construction. A trail saddle will generally be constructed to look like a ranch/all around saddle, but will be made of much lighter material since it is not subjected to the conditions and forces of roping and heavy use.
If you are looking for a good all-around saddle for general riding (a few hours a week) almost any style will work. If you want to do a specific type of activity or ride long hours, choose a saddle that works best for your style of riding. For example, if you want to rope, you will need a saddle made for that activity or you’ll rip it to pieces and hurt yourself and the horse the first time that saddle takes a good jerk from a steer on the end of the rope. However, if you are doing recreational riding, a roping saddle is far heavier and of thicker leather than you would need. Sure, you can ride a barrel horse in a cutting saddle on occasion, but if you’re serious about it, you’ll get a saddle that allows you and the horse the best chance of success and shaving 1/100th of a second off the pattern time.
If you’re consider a couple of different saddles for general, recreational riding, go with what is most comfortable for you and what fits your horse best, and which has the best workmanship instead of what style they are. Also, bear in mind that quality varies widely, and also affecst your comfort, your enjoyment of riding, and the performance of the horse. A top-quality, used saddle of a different style is better than a low-quality new saddle of the style you’re looking for.
