Just a little background:

I started riding horses when I was very young, probably five. I’ve always ridden at very competitive show barns in New England, with good trainers…my family just never had the funding for me to burn up the competitive show circuit. The most I have ever competed in were small school shows. When I reached my freshman year of high school, I decided to take a break from riding, because I was simply schooling/training and taking lessons, not showing. I am planning on picking it back up, with a more aggressive approach, in a couple of months.

Stonehill is a Division II school. Even though I have basically no show experience, I feel like I am well beyond a novice level of riding, and I have ridden horses with personalities from A to Z. If I get back in the saddle and contact the coach, do you think there is even a SHOT for me to be considered riding for their (or any NCAA Division II) equestrian team? I’m not sure if it matters, but I am five foot six and weigh 120 pounds.

I work at the College, in the athletic department in fact. I would strongly advice you email the coach at twatson1@stonehill.edu and ask. I bet you would be welcomed with open arms. They have a very strong program, just qualified as a team for the National Championships in Kentucky next month, but I believe they have all skill and experience levels on the team. You never know unless you try!

Also… if you do not hear back from the coach right away, don’t be discouraged, as I know things are hectic right now getting ready for nationals in a couple weeks.

I am looking to get a new saddle and I found two that I was looking at, my parents want to get the Regent Saddle, but when I looked it up online even though it was cheap a lot of people said it was a terrible saddle.
Here are the links for both of the saddles i am looking at, the other saddle is a Wintec all purpose:
This is the Wintec one- it is the 250 all purpose http://equestrian.doversaddlery.com/search?p=Q&lbc=doversaddlery&uid=55326597&ts=closeouts&ref=closeouts&w=*&af=catsub:saddles%20cat:horsetack&method=and&view=grid&isort=globalpop&cnt=300
This is the Regent one, Ansbach I think it is the first one in the list:

http://www.saddleshop.com/sale/salebarnset.htm

I was wondering if you had some pros and cons, or if you could help me out with my saddle problem,
i am not showing but i take lessons and jump: i was looking for a good all-purpose saddle. i was also wondering what saddle you have? My price limit is probably $250-$300.
yeah, i guess i am asking
-DO you have any personal experience with either of those saddles?
-What saaddle do you have?
-What saddle should i get?

(you may have guessed by now I ride english)
Is it a problem that the saddle is black? I cant really find black stirrup leathers? Should my bridle be black also?

I have a Wintec 500 all purpose and it’s brilliant. It’s not quite as nice looking as a leather saddle (and I am still eyeing ads for secondhand leather saddles) but it is easy to care for and I don’t have to worry about it getting wet etc. It’s comfy for me and my horse. Mine has cair panels (air filled) and these seem to get a mixed reaction from people, but I like them and I think Rosie does too.

The wintec 250 range doesn’t have cair panels. I’ve never ridden on one but I know they are an older version. Synthetic saddles (including wintec ones) use to get laughed at they were so uncomfortable, I would hope that they had improved their 250 range by now though.

I am an older teen who has been around horses most of my life although i have only ever owned ponies. I’ve been in equine 4-h and am currently taking riding lessons. However, in the summer my family takes a lot of trips and i don’t get much riding in, so i am trying to find a good summer camp i could go to this summer where i could get some riding in. It is a lot harder to find one then you would think, because i want a camp where i will actually be learning something and spending a lot of time in the saddle. It would be nice if i got some sort of unique experience out of it too, like eventing or camping with horses although that isn’t the important thing, obviously it would be nice if it was near by and affordable, but that isn’t always possible. Does anyone know of any really good equestrian camps? Or maybe a website with the top-rated camps in the U.S? Thanks in advance!

Here are some camps:

Hope this helps!
Happy riding!

Equestrian Center Help!?

April 21, 2010

Before I start explaining everything, I just want to tell you that yes, I did search on Google and found a couple of barns near me, but I still need further help.

So, last year I started getting Western lessons from one of my friends. She was charging fifteen dollars per hour, which is really cheap. I’ve always wanted to do English, but she only taught Western. My mom was sort of unsure about all of this, but she let me take lessons from her because I wanted them so bad. My mom and I knew that she wasn’t qualified to be a trainer, but lessons were really cheap compared to other places around me. I stopped taking lessons from her about six months ago and haven’t had any lessons since. Now I am looking again for stables near me where I can take lessons. I want to primarily do Dressage, Jumping, and possibly Eventing. Like I said, I found a couple of places (actually, I found two.) I have found Four Seasons Equestrian Center and Excelsior Equestrian Center. I haven’t been able to find any more that do Dressage and/ or Show Jumping close to me, that have gotten good reports. My zip code is 46307. Can you help me find some other Equestrian Centers/ stables that offer lessons near me? Also, it would help if they have shows at their barns, but this isn’t necessary. I sort of want a barn that’s like the one in The Saddle Club, where it also has trails that I can ride on. Thanks so much and sorry for the length of this question. Anyways, thanks and Happy Holidays!
Sorry, the state is Indiana.

Could you tell me the state? That would help.

But here is a good search for stables.

Just filter your search at the top of the list.

Edit- Here’s several.

I tried to stick to the zip codes starting with 46, so if you want to continue sorting through the list, here’s where I left off
